Birding Days Out
A bit of a quiet month birding-wise, enlivened by a visit to Connah’s Quay and Burton Mere Wetlands on the 8th September.
At Connah’s Quay we got a good view of a Sparrowhawk atop the bird feeding pole awaiting its breakfast and a Kestrel flying at head height a few feet from us. We also got good views of a Greenshank and generally had a great couple of hours.
We moved on to Burton Mere Wetlands where we again saw the splendid gathering of Spoonbills and over at Inner Marsh Farm highlights were a good group of Curlew Sandpiper and a single Little Stint. At the Reception Hide a single Golden Plover was a nice addition to the usual ducks
Birding Group
The first date of the autumn term of 2016 was to Pennington Flash which was pretty reliable but nothing special, highlights being a Green Sandpiper.
Garden
The weather is taking a turn for the colder in the evenings and the birds are starting to return to the feeders with a Robin showing and singing well, a Wren scuttling around and up to six Goldfinches on the feeders at any one time. Also a Coal Tit and, unusually for our garden, a Nuthatch on the 28th.
