When we left Burton Mere Wetlands, where we had been birding with the birding group, we decided that because it was a mild day and surprisingly the rain had held off so far, we would drop down top the Harp Inn for a drink and a toastie and look for Short-eared Owls.
There had been reports of Short-eared Owls being seen so we hoped we would be lucky. As it happened, while Anne was indoors ordering, I got the scope up and almost immediately found one quartering the marsh. I was desperate for it to remain long enough foe Anne to see it but, as it happened, it was happy to give us a show for half an hour or so. I was even accompanied briefly by a second one. This is the first time we have seen Short-eared Owls here (or anywhere) since 2019 so we were especially pleased that it showed so very well and for so long.
