Pennington Flash 26th April 2022

The birding group visit to Pennington Flash on the 26th April turned out to be a really, warm and sunny day with very little wind. The foliage is all back on the trees now, making spotting birds trickier, but they are full of bird song. We got lots of warblers but also three Spring visitors.

The first year tick was a pair of Common Terns perched on Buoy 6 on the main flash. There were also the usual range of ducks but on the scrapes we got the first Little Ringed Plover of the year and the first Common Sandpiper of the year.

Other bids included a range of warblers including Cetti’s, Willow and Reed Warblers as well as Chiffchaffs and Blackcaps. The Bunting hide was remarkably quiet with only Stock Dove, a single Bullfinch and a single Coal Tit showing there.

It was a really nice day and very warm. It was especially nice to see some new arrivals for the breeding season.
