High Tide at Hoylake : 12th August 2014
Another high tide of 9.8 metres at 1pm took us to Hoylake for the hard to resist spectacle of large numbers of waders. This time the tide came nearly all the way in to the promenade so that huge numbers of Dunlin – estimated at 2,800 – ended up about 100 feet from the promenade.
There had been an estimated 300 Ringed Plovers there as well but as the tide came close to the promenade they flew off to be replaced by a flock of Sandwich Terns. Some heavy rain fell for about fifteen minutes but you could still sit in the car and look out of the window and still get good views of the birds. It was relatively quiet being a week day so there were only about 20 people around, most of them photographers,
