Mallorca Holiday 1st May 2015 : C’an Cuarassa, S’Albufereta
After yesterday’s exertions and with today being a bank holiday I reckoned that something fairly gentle was a good idea so first thing after breakfast I headed out for the C’an Cuarassa tracks at the western end of S’ Albufereta. On my way I stopped to look in a derelict patch of land and almost immediately came across a singing Linnet. There were also Fan-tailed Warblers and Greenfinches and Swifts flew overhead.
As I tuned down the track from the main road I was immediately greeted with the song of Nightingale and Cetti’s warblers and I got very good views of a Serin. At the reserve the pools were fairly quiet with about eight Black-winged Stilts, a few Little Ringed Plover and a Greenshank. At one of the pools a Common Sandpiper was present. In the trees around there were calling Sardinian Warblers. I saw a of Stonechats and Fan-tailed Warblers (or Zitting Cisticolas). One the water were a pair of Red-crested Pochard and a holiday first – a humble Little Grebe. There were lots of Swifts in the sky and also a Kestrel.
The day was starting to get very hot. It seems like the locals might be in for 25 degrees for their bank holiday ! As short a trip as it was there were some nice species and a holiday tick to boot !
