Our Garden
The Starlings seem to have suddenly become less obvious. The Wren is less obvious just as the Dunnock becomes more obvious. There are a pair of Coal Tits regularly on the feeder and a small group of Goldfinches. A Magpie seems to have taken up residence but in general it is quite quiet. This was our only solo day out before the resumption of the birding group term.
Birding Days Out
We had an interesting day out to Gilroy Nature Park on the 8th where we had a look at the Godwit roost. We went on to Parkgate where we got our first Hen Harrier of the year.
Birding Group Days Out
The first birding group outing on the 15th September to RSPB Burton Mere Wetlands where we had a great day finding waders and getting three “year ticks” in the form of Curlew Sandpiper, Little Stint and Greenshank but we got plenty of other birds as well.
The second birding group outing on the 22nd September was to Hilbre Island where we got our first Brent Goose of the year as well as our first Rock Pipit. It was a fantastically mild day which impacted a little on the birding but we still had a great day.
The last birding group outing on the 29th September was to Hoylake for a high tide. Again the weather was really pleasant so not exactly what you want for a high tide. Be that as it may we enjoyed ourselves a lot.
