Starling Murmuration at Neumann’s Flash : 15th February 2016
We enjoyed our visit to Neumann’s Flash, five days previously, that we had to round off our day around the Northwich area, that started with s Smew at Newchurch Common and a Bittern at Budworth Mere, with another go at a mumuration of Starlings. It turned out to be a little disconcerting at first but, in the end, we were lucky again.
At first we were a bit concerned that all the Starlings appeared to be collecting over Ashton’s Flash and we had heard they sometimes moved over there. We didn’t have enough time to get over to that end so we decided to just stay put and enjoy what we could see.
In the end we had been a bit pessimistic and as the time went by we did get another fantastic spectacle – perhaps only 200,000 birds instead of the 650,000 we had seen before but it was still well worth going back. I tried to get some photos and some video but it wasn’t an easy subject to film and it was, of course, dark !
It was a perfect end to a great day.
