Mallorca Birding 11th October 2017

S’Albufera

Anne went to Palma for the day so I decided to go back to S’Albufera for the day. We both went to the new bus station together but went in different directions. I won’t bother repeating all the same birds that we had seen on our visit earlier in the week but needless to say there were numerous Marsh Harriers and a couple of Osprey. As for new birds, I got Marbled Duck (Marbled Teal) at the Sa Roca pools. Perhaps of more interest was the large variety of waders at the Es Cibollar pools which included Common, Curlew and Green Sandpipers.

The whole site was incredibly busy with all sorts of people, cyclists, hikers and birders and a vast number of school children out on a nature day. I was at the Es Cibollar pools hide and it had taken me half an hour to get a seat (photographers!!!) so it was a shame that, after about half an hour, about forty school kids came into the hide and the whole place exploded. The teachers explained that the children have priority so we had to make room for them. This effectively meant that we all had to leave and with this likely to recur at the other hides I decided to call it a day and return home.

The 12th was a bit of a day off. We wanted to hire a car and just hang loose for the day so that is what we did.
