Summary
After a long spell of non-birding as a result of the July heat-wave and also having boiler replacement work being done on our cellar, we at last got out again mid-August and had a fine day on the Wirral where we looked forward to a High Tide of 9.7 metres at 14:08hrs. We went to Burton Mere Wetlands first for a couple of hours before heading off to Hoylake. We managed two year ticks at the former and a life tick at the latter.
We went again to Burton Mere Wetlands on the 21st and managed to get another two year ticks, a juvenile Redstart and a Ruddy Shelduck. We got forty-eight species that day with a concentration of very nice birds at the bridge and in the field leading to Burton Point.
We were hoping that a return visit to Burton Mere Wetlands on the 29th would give us the first Spoonbill of the year but they had gone by the time we got there.
