The last birding group day of the term was  a morning at Marbury Park followed by the planning session for the next term. It was pretty uneventful and that was that for the group as a whole. The month was split into two parts. The early part of the month was scorching hot so we mainly sat in the garden trying to keep cool. The other half was characterised by historically high (allegedly) levels of rain that also kept us indoors and away from birding. Of course, we did do a few things on our own. We had a day out to visit friends that allowed us a few hours to take a walk around Dove Stones Reservoir on the 4th July . We didn’t see much but I can imagine that it could be better later in the year – only colder and windier. Still, this keeps cropping up in birding group discussions regarding new places to go to so we were happy to give it a look and also found an amazing ice cream van in the car park.

A much better birding day was at RSPB Leighton Moss on the 16th July that got us a year tick Pectoral Sandpiper as well as Bittern and Spoonbills. But that was it as rain stopped play for most of the second half of July

Garden

Our garden is rather dominated by the House Sparrows this month with a group of around 30 always in the garden. We occasionally get a Nuthatch and Rong-necked Parakeets and we even had a Bullfinch on one day. There are still some Swifts to be seen in the sky which is nice.
