The last time we were at the Roman remains in Alcudia we were on a walking tour so we could not really stop to look at the birds but I made a mental note to return there to look for birds because it seemed to be  great habitat. This time round we did that  and we were not disappointed. Again I didn’t have my scope but it was so hot and we were going to have a walk around the weekly market in Alcudia afterwards so carrying a scope  wasn’t really practical.  Bins had to do but we still did ok.

The first  bird we got, we got good views of our first bird, a lovely Black Redstart and as we walked along the pathway we started to see large numbers of Stonechats,  Greenfinch, Goldfinch and, of course, House Sparrows. The flocks where quiite excitable and were gadding about so it was hard to get a good look at some of them. Again a scope would have been handy. There was lot of bird song and this helped us to get visuals on a couple of Blackcap.

As we were about half way back I thought I saw what looked like just another Woodpigeon but it wasn’t quite right so I thought I had better take a closer look. This revealed our first Hoopoe of the holiday -but hopefully not the last. It perched at the top of a bare tree for quite a while giving us splendid views.

We went back home for a bit of a break and then took a spin around La Gola which had a few nice birds.
