Birding Group

With it being December, and a pretty rotten December at that with lots of colds going round and bad weather, there were only a couple of birding group days. It rather seemed that a lot of people lost interest as the weather deteriorated. A fair number of people (but not all) managed to get to the planning meeting at  Marbury Country Park and Budworth Mere on the 1st December. We had a really good meal and were treated very well at the “Spinner & Bergamot” in Comberbach but, birding-wise, nice views of a Kingfisher and a single Greater Spotted Woodpecker and a single Fieldfare was about it.

The planning meeting over, there were also fewer of the group that made it to WWT Martin Mere on the 8th. We managed to dodge some heav rain towards the end of the afternoon but we did get nice views of Marsh Harrier

Garden Birding

The weather continued to make garden birdwatching fairly poor as well. In fact it was quite warm so it was only later in the month that birds started to re-appear.

On top of the above, I got a bad cold from the middle of Devember and that was it until a week or so into the new year. A rather miserable December would sum it up rather well. The only good thing was that we did not get as much rain in Manchester as other parts of the country did with the, now traditional, winter flooding. Roll on next year !!
