Summary of Lanzarote Holiday : March 2016
Although we only really had a few days where we were birding for part of the day, we still managed some memorable sightings including good numbers of Houbara Bustards (with one displaying to female/s) and a small flock of Cream-coloured Coursers that included a chick not yet able to fly. We also had the locally unusual sighting of a Marsh Harrier in the desert and plenty of Hoopoes on at least one day. Trumpeter Finches was a particularly good sighting for me since I had only previously had brief glimpses and the views of a Barbary Falcon at the Mirador del Rio were also special moments. The salt pans were productive as usual and gave me plenty of opportunities to practice my birds in flight photography ! In the end we had thirty two species; perhaps not a particularly high number but, considering the limited habitats that we had time to visit, not too surprising and anyway it was the quality of the sightings that mattered to us !
