Woolston Eyes 25th April 2017

After our visit to Moore Nature Reserve with the birding group (actually just six of us) we went to a local pub for kunch before heading off to the nearby Woolston Eyes Reserve where we managed to get a couple of examples of our target bird, Black-necked Grebe, which was a “year tick” for us.

I had hoped to get some Med Gulls or waders there as there have been some reports recently. I also hoped to get a Grasshopper Warbler and we did meet a group of photogrpahers who had both heard and photographed one just before we arrived but despite looking around and keeping our ears open for reeling, we didn’t hear anything.

There were only two Black-necked Grebes to be seen but we didn’t look from the smaller hides as the rain started to come down quite heavily. We headed back to the car but got quite wet doing so.
