S’Albufereta
Anne wanted to go down to Palma for the day so I decided just to take a walk to the end of the Pine Walk and then back down the promenade to the Uyal Hotel area and then back down to town. There were Shags on the rocks just off the shore but I could not make out any Sandwich Terns.
When Anne got back we took the bus out to S’Albufereta and explored a bit of the site we had not done before. We walked down to a platform where we flushed a Kestrel as we walked down the track. The bushes held Fan-tailed Warblers and Greenfinch and Goldfinch. The view from the platform was best though because from here we got fairly good views of a small number of Greater Flamingos in one of the larger pools. We also saw Great Egret, Black-winged Stilt, lots of Greenshank coming and going – some quite close to – and Little Egret and Grey Heron. There were also a good number of Cattle Egret and the fields held Stonechat and the air was busy with Sand Martin and Swallow. We also believe we saw a Buzzard but these are not particularly common.
We walked down to the part of the site at Can Curassa but there wasn’t much there so we got the bus back to town from the Club Del Sol stop (confusing because the same stop located at the semi-circular drive of the Club del Sol services both directions!)
