Mallorca Birding 13th October 2017

Portocolom

We drove out to Manacor which was actually quite near to where we had been with Cristine (Sa Coma) but from there we drove south to Portcolom.  At Portocolom we drove out to the lighthouse (which is gated off and closed to the public) but we got out and had a loo around. It wasn’t long before we saw a Blue Rock Thrush perched on a wire fence close by and a pair of Pallid Swift flying around the cliffs at the far side of the bay. There were lots of Stonechats and I suddenly heard a call that I was sure was a Hoopoe.

We walked back down the road a bit and looked in a garden quite nearby, There we found the Hoopoe and watched it singing (or is it calling) for a long time. Eventually another showed up and they had a bit of territorial stuff. There were some Yellow-legged Gulls and a Shag as well so we didn’t do too badly considering it wasn’t really a birding day especially!
