Covid continue to be a problem and increasingly so as November went on. The birding group got together properly in November after testing the waters a bit in October. We had visits to Sandbach Flashes on 2nd , which was very flooded and the Tree Sparrows wer absent for another year. Wigan Flashes on the 16th was quiet but we got the first Goldeye of the year! – such strange times they are. We also went to RSPB Marshside on the 23rd where we got a couple of good year ticks. We also had a very brief drop-in at WWT Martin Mere on the 23rd. On the last day of the month the birding group went to Burton Mere Wetlands on the 30th but we went alone to Neston Old Quay after that where we got our forst views of Short-eared Owls in a couple of years.

It is sad to say but Covid is overshadowing a lot of people and the reserves are very on and off with their hide openings and generally it has been a dispiriting time. There hasn’t even been much in our garden lately. Our second hedgehog of the year has gone into hibernation at last – it seemed as if it never would.
