High Tide Birding on the Wirral 21st and 23rd February 2023
The birding group had a morning out to Brockholes planned but because there was a high tide on the Wirral, we decided to there ourselves. We hadn’t had a high tide there this year because we had been on holiday in Lanzarote and, since the February high tides are usually good, we decided that that was what we would do.

Birding group Trip to Conwy and North Wales 14-15th February 2023
The first birding group outing of the year that we could make it to (we had been on holiday in Lanzarote) was to RSPB Conwy and North Wales. We decided, though, that we would rather stay overnight and come back the next day. This gave us a chance to see some other sites than we had time for just doing the 14th of February. We stayed at the Groes Inn just outisde Conwy again but it wasn’t as good as previous visits. Wethought that perhaps we should try the Tal-y-Cafn Hotel but it is a bit pricey and perhaps not any better. Still, the ovvernight stay gave us a god chance to fit in a couple of extra birding sites.

2023 Birding in Lanzarote
Our first overseas holiday since the Covid came in January of 2023. Our last holiday before Covid was also to Lanzarote and our birding on that holiday can be found here. This time, we did not have Carmen from Eco Insiders as a guide so any birding we did was on out own. This may have reduced the species we saw but we still got all the target species (apart from Stone Curlew) that we hope to see in Lanzarote in winter.

2022 Annual Summary
January saw us catch some high tides at Hoylake, New Brighton and Denhall Quay. On the 4th of January our sightings included Marsh and Hen Harriers, Purple Sandpipers, Grey Plovers, Sanderling and, generally, a good range of birds. A visit to the Wirral towards the end of the month (20th January) gave us Short-eared Owl and Peregrine and Marsh Harrier.
The first birding group visit was to Pennington Flash on 11th January and again we got a good range of birds and a visit to Wigan Flashes on 25th January got us Willow Tit.
At home we had a Blackcap and our returning Grey Wagtials.

Moore Nature Reserve 6 December 2022
The birding group visit to Moore Nature Reserve didn’t sound particularly interesting to me but it turned out to be a very nice morning with a nice smattering of thrushes, Song and Mistle Thrush, and Redwing. We also saw Treecreeper and Nuthatch, Goldcrest and a nice group of about 8 Siskins.

WWT Martin Mere 29th November 2022
This was only the second birding day out of the month. A combination of factors had led to us not doing much birding so it was good to get out again, especially to Martin Mere which had been closed for some months due to Bird Flu.

Pennington Flash 1st November 2022
The first birding group trip of November was supposed to be to Sandbach FLashes but road closures meant that we could not get there and the usual alternative emerge – Pennington Flash. The water there was also very high and it wasn’t possible to walk the circuit as usual because of flooding on part of the path.
