I spotted a single Nuthatch and there was the odd Blackbird and Magpie and even a Jay was spotted by some but- other than that – the pickings were lean indeed. We did eventually spot a couple of Buzzards and a Kestrel but woodland birds seemed to be at a premium today. We had better luck when we came to Budworth Mere however.

Even then, most of the birds were on the very far side clustered in a bunch. There were Canada Geese, of course and around 20 Mute Swans and a similar number of Coots and Mallards and we did see a single Pochard but the most interesting bird was a group of around 8 curlew on the grass beyond the far edge of the mere. All in all it was a fairly ordinary day out though it was pleasant enough weather and a good walk anyway.

Bird List

Species

Count

Canada Goose

30

Mute Swan

20

Gadwall

2

Mallard

20

Common Pochard

1

Great Crested Grebe

3

Grey Heron

1

Common Buzzard

2

Common Kestrel

1

Common Coot

20

Eurasian Curlew

8

Eurasian Jay

1

Eurasian Magpie

2

Eurasian Nuthatch

1

Eurasian Blackbird

1

Birding Group Day Out to Marbury Country Park 4th October 2011 We were hoping that today’s birding group visit to Marbury Country Park would be a chance to catch up with those birds who had seemed to be lying low of recent weeks but we walked through the woods at Marbury with hardly a sight …

[12,8,9

post-1346","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-birding","category-birding-days-out","category-birding-group-days-out","item-wrap
