I had read on a sightings web site that someone had recorded a “? juvenile Sharp-tailed Sandpiper” which would have been a bit of a mega rarity but I was a bit sceptical about it and, as it happened, we ran into a chap who had been at Woolston Eyes a few days before and he said that the bird actually turned out to be a Ruff ! This made me feel much better about not turning up for it but we still fancied a visit to Woolston Eyes on what turned out to be a hot day.
\nIt would appear that all the Black-necked Grebes have left already and all we saw in this department was a single Little Grebe. The highlight, really, was the presence of lots of Snipe and the amusing sight of two Magpies trying to dislodge a Buzzard from a tree branch it was roosting on. The Magpies were very provocative and it was amazing that the Buzzard did not have a go at them just to get a bit of peace.<\/p>\n
