AS we crossed the bridge there were lots of Wrens int he brambles under the bridge and on the water there were a few Tufted Ducks. Chiffchaffs were singing away. On the water of number three bed we saw at least six Black-necked Grebes but there were probably more there as they were constantly diving down to feed and popping up elsewhere. There was also a single Little Grebe and at least four Great Crested Grebes. Gulls included a pair of Lesser Black-backed Gulls. We also got what we are pretty sure was a Marsh Harrier but it soon disappeared. We also saw a Buzzard later. Over the water there was a fairly large flock of Sand Martins and I am pretty sure that there wee a couple of Swallows in there too but they were swooping around at a fair rate. There were Greenfinches on the feeders

In the woods we saw a Blackcap singing and in the distance a Great Spotted Woodpecker drummed occasionally. At the last hide we got good views of a Ruddy Duck looking fantastic in the sunshine.

All in all a lovely day for a walk and we also got three good year ticks.

Bird Sightings : Woolston Eyes

Species

Count

Greylag Goose

20

Canada Goose

12

Mute Swan

1

Common Shelduck

12

Gadwall

4

Mallard

8

Northern Shoveler

4

Tufted Duck

10

Ruddy Duck

1

Common Pheasant

2

Little Grebe

1

Great Crested Grebe

4

Black-necked Grebe

6

Great Cormorant

4

Grey Heron

4

Eurasian Marsh Harrier

1

Common Buzzard

1

Eurasian Common Moorhen

4

Common Coot

8

Northern Lapwing

1

Black-headed Gull

30

Herring Gull

4

Lesser Black-backed Gull

2

Common Wood Pigeon

10

Great Spotted Woodpecker

1

Eurasian Magpie

8

Carrion Crow

6

Collared Sand Martin

40

Barn Swallow

2

Great Tit

8

Common Blue Tit

8

Northern Wren

4

Common Chiffchaff

4

Blackcap

1

European Robin

1

Eurasian Blackbird

2

European Greenfinch

4

Woolston Eyes : 13th April 2014 After trying to get there for quite some time, we eventually got to Woolston Eyes where we hoped to see some Black-necked Grebes.
