March 2017 Summary<\/strong> Year ticks inc Skylark, Meadow Pipit and Hen Harrier at Neston Old Quay on 28 March 2017<\/p>\n <\/p>\n March was dominated for us by our “holiday of a lifetime” to San Francisco and Hawaii<\/a> where we clocked up forty species and twenty-six of those were lifers. This wasn’t a particularly impressive number of species but it wasn’t a birding holiday; if anything it was Humpback Whales we wanted to see. Be that as it may you never stop birding and we got some lovely birds – even if most of them were not endemics and plenty of them were introduced int he 19th and 20th centuries.<\/p>\n This left us with very little of the month left as we got back on the 21st and we had a lot of catching up to do. Be that as it may we did manage to get to the birding group outing to the Wirral <\/a>taking in Burton Mere Wetlands briefly before going to Riverbank Road for a high tide which wasn’t very impressive, and then a drop-in at Neston Old Quay which at least netted us a ringtail Hen Harrier and a Marsh Harrier so it ended well.
