September is Wader Weekend on the Wirral so we went to Hoylake on the 10th<\/a> for a high tide. We got a good show but it is perhaps still a little early for the really big displays. Still there was a good smattering of birds with some of the Hoylake regulars like Dunlin, Ringed Plover and Sanderling as well as a single Grey Plover and some Bar-tailed Godwits.<\/p>\n

The search for a “year tick” took us to Frodsham Marsh on the 14th. As well as being the first time we have been there since the wind farm was erected it gave us a nice Red-necked Phalarope for our year list.<\/p>\n

The first birding group outing on the autumn term was to Hoylake, Denhall Quay and Burton Mere Wetlands on the 19th<\/a> all for a modest “high” tide. It turned out to be a beautiful Indian Summer day but the only real highlight was a year tick Curlew Sandpiper at Burton<\/p>\n

The second of the term but the last of September was on the 26th to Pennington Flash where we got a year tick in the shape of a pair of Willow Tits.<\/p>\n

Things in the garden are looking up with the return of birds to the garden for the winter. We even got a Mislte Trush towards the end of the month.<\/p>\n
