On the drive from the airport we saw three Red Kites. Our room, though imperfect in some ways, had a great view of the mountains behind the town and we could soon see Ravens flying over the top.

5th October

On our first full day we decided just to get settled in so in the morning we took a walk around La Gola reserve. I had read that the visitor had been refunded and was now open again after a few years of being closed. The bird guide we had used before, Cristina Fiol from Balears WIldlife (https://balearswildlifeen.wordpress.com/about/ ), had previously had a connection with the visitor centre and we were due to have a full days birding with her later in our holiday so we dropped in there and she was, indeed, there. We had a nice chat and then a walk around the reserve. It was actually a bit quiet but, of course, we got Sardinian Warbler and Stonechat – and a Greenshank.
In the afternoon I took a walk to the end of the Boquer Valley (but not down to the beach) which was as busy as ever – perhaps more so. In truth, I think that you have to walk off the path to see any small birds as the traffic to boisterous and incessant on the path. As a result, I didn’t see much apart from birds that can be seen easily at a distance; so I got a nice flock of Crag Martins but that was it.

Port de Pollenca and Boquer Valley

[12,8,10

post-6645","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-birding","category-birding-days-out","category-birding-on-holiday","item-wrap
