The hides at the reserve are open again but you still have to social distance and wear masks so not yet back to normal. We also got a year tick Dunlin.

On the 10th June we met up with some friends and stayed overnight near Holmfirth so we had two chances to drop in at RSPB Dove Stone – once on our way there on the 10th June and once on our way back on the 11th June. Each time we got fantastic views of a Wood Warbler singing as it flew along it’s territory, pausing at various trees to make a burst of song. We also got Willow Warbler and a Jay. We even got a pair of Spotted FLychatchers in the woods and plenty of Thrushes and a Peregrine. It was a great couple of visits and gave us Peregrine, Wood Warbler and Jay year ticks

The highlight of the month was a three day trip to North Wales taking in Little Orme, RSPB Conwy, Cemlyn Bay, Holyhead Fish Dock, RSPB South Stack, Bodnant Gardens, Llanferfechan and Gronant Dunes. In all we got seventeen year ticks and fifty-eight species.

In our garden, the Grey Wagtails have disappeared since we ran out of mealworms (can’t get supply at reasonable cost due to pandemic) We see a pair of Dunnocks every morning but the birds are a bit skulking at the moment. Saw an adult Robin with no tail – presumably moulting. Have seen a juvenile Blackbird and juvenile Goldfinch

Year Ticks for June 2021

No

Sighting

1

Curlew Sandpiper at Burton Mere Wetlands 3rd June 2021

2

Dunlin at Burton Mere Wetlands 3rd June 2021

3

Jay at Dove Stone Reservoir 10th June 2021

4

Peregrine at Dove Stone Reservoir 10th June 2021

5

Wood Warbler at Dove Stone Reservoir 10th June 2021

6

Pied Wagtail at Dove Stone Reservoir 11th June 2021

7

Guillemot at Little Orme 15th June 2021

8

Razorbill at Little Orme 15th June 2021

9

Common Gull at Little Orme 15th June 2021

10

Fulmar at Little Orme 15th June 2021

11

Little Grebe at RSPB Conwy 15th June 2021

12

Bullfinch at RSPB Conwy 15th June 2021

13

Black Guillemot at Cemlyn Bay 15th June 2021

14

Arctic Tern at Cemlyn Bay 15th June 2021

15

Common Tern at Cemlyn Bay 15th June 2021

16

Sandwich Tern at Cemlyn Bay 15th June 2021

17

Linnet at South Stack 16th June 2021

18

Eider at Llanferfechan 16th June 2021

19

Red Kite at Groes Inn 16th June 2021

20

Raven at Groes Inn 17th June 2021

21

Little Tern 17th June 2021

22

Skylark 17th June 2021

23

Ringed Plover 17th June 2021

UK Species Year List to June 2021: 102Total UK Species in June 2021: 86New “Year Ticks” in June 2021: 23New “Life Ticks” in June 2021: 0

[12,21

post-8703","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-birding","category-monthly-summary","item-wrap
