Despite predictions, we had fair weather for a trip up to Burton Mere Wetlands. Despite there being quite a lot of rain recently, water levels were fairly good and afforded us decent views of a few waders, especially Sandpipers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

On the main scrape we watched two Green Sandpipers coming and going but we had to go down to Inner Marsh Farm to get a group of seven Curlew Sandpipers. Some COmmon Snipe were showing well at both scrapes being happy to wade around openly in the water. A Great White Egret seems to be commonplace at Burton these days. There were still numbers of Swallows flying high up; it must surely be near time for their departure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We went down to Parkgate for some lunch at the, newly revamped, Red Lion pub where we sat outside and looked over the marsh. Two Marsh Harriers were being mobbed by a pair of Curlews. The water level on the Donkey Stand Flash were good allowing for a few waders to find some mud. These included Ruff, Common Redshank and some Dunlin with a Little Stint mixed in with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, two good year ticks in the Curlew Sandpipers and the Little Stint. When we were on holiday in Norfolk earlier in the year I had tried to see a Little Stint but always missed them having to settle for Temminck’ Stint instead !<\/p>\n\n\n\n
