We had a day out at Burton Mere Wetlands on 6th September where we got our first Curlew Sandpipers of the year at Inner Marsh Farm hide and also two Green Sandpipers on the main scrape – there seems to have been a few Green Sandpipers around this year. At Parkgate the water levels were lowish so attracting some waders. Among a fair variety was our first Little Stint of the Year – all the Stints we had seen previously in 2022 had been Temminck’s !!

That was it for the month except for our visit to Scotland where we stayed at Aberdeen and Musselburgh between 19th – 26th September which was principally to visit relatives and not a birding trip. Be that as it may, I got my first Eider and first Bar-tailed Godwit of the year at the Ythan Estuary which was as amazing as usual – I could spend hours and hours at the dunes near the golf club at Newburgh – but we didn’t have much time. Although we got our first Bar-tailed Godwits on the Ythan estuary, by far the more impressive was a group of fifty or so of them wading on the low tide just at Fisherrow harbour where we had rented an air bnb apartment for a few days whilst visiting family. We also managed a quick visit to Musselburgh Lagoons which turned out to be heaving with birds. I regret not taking my scope there but we didn’t really have much time for birding. The weather was very good throughout our trip to Scotland.

New Year Ticks for September 2022

Curlew Sandpiper at Burton Mere Wetlands 6th September 2022

Little Stint at Parkgate 6th September 2022

Eider at Ythan Estuary 22nd September 2022

Bar-tailed Godwit at Ythan Estuary 22nd September 2022

New “Year Ticks” in September 2022: 0New “Life Ticks” in September 2022: 4Total Species for 2022 so far: 159

[12,21

post-9291","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-birding","category-monthly-summary","item-wrap
